Hello everyone. I just joined here. I have a serious question. My old film teacher told me I could apply a sound effect to a specific key on a key board and record it as I type so that I can create a pattern with these sound effects. For example, if I wanted to follow someones footsteps with a sound effect, I'd apply the sound effect to (as an example) the 'F' key and just press F, F, F, F, F every time they take a step. Is this actually possible? Or was he messing with me? :S

Thanks! :cheer:

Some software does this, mostly sampler apps and DAWs. But NLEs will not do this, no.

What we do is simply use M to set markers, then spot our effects to those, then tweak.

Or use the arrow keys to move frame by frame to find a visual cue, then spot according to where the playhead is.

That's what I usually do. Although tedious it gets the job done. I just needed a shortcut.

Make markers with the M key, then use the keyboard shortcuts to jump between markers, and use F10 to do overwrite edits for the SFX file loaded into the Viewer.

Even doing it the way your music teaching stated, which I've never seen before professionally, you'd have to go back and spend the same amount of time tweaking it to precise timing. "Spotting" is "precise timing" of audio clips to visual events.
