Pete you can remove this if you feel it doesn't belong in this forum ...

I guess by now everyone saw Ripple's Motion Template Management Tutorial where they demo the creation of a Symbolic Link to set up universal access/sharing of Motion Templates.

In the video post on this forum Mark (in comments) pointed to what I think is a contextual menu app. that builds these links without tooling with the Terminal. Very cool.

I built a Cocoa app. that handles link creation as well:

symLinkX

Feel free to pull it down and check it out. 10.7 or higher.

Drag in source - Define target - press Return. That's about it. The Open button allows you to directly access the created link.
