Here's a new FCPX effect that simulates camera shake from a subtle hand-held drift (to give a bit of life to a locked off shot) to a massively shaky rollercoaster look, all with appropriate motion blur and framing compensation*.

WITHDRAWN

There are three simple controls: for shake speed (how fast the camera wobbles), shakiness (how randomly it wobbles), and shake distance (how far the camera moves).

* Note that more movement will result in a more cropped picture area - this is automatically compensated for so you don't have to think about it.

Please note that some users have reported speed issues associated with the motion blur settings of this effect.

I have not had the same problems on my system but there are many issues surrounding the overall performance of FCPX which need to be addressed by Apple as a matter of the utmost priority.

Hello,
installation is fairly easy. drop the contents of the download file onto your Movies/ Motion Templates/ Effects directory. I crated a folder "TKY" where I placed all the TKY events that I downloaded here but i don't think that's absolutely necessary, more detailed instructions are located here here

Happy Editing!

Hummm.... "Camera Shake" is making FCPX crash. Has anyone else had problems with this? I could really use this effect right now on a project that I'm working on.

BTW, thanks TKY for this, and all your great effects!!! Good job!

Thanks,

Eddie

I have only tested it on a clip as I do all new effects I download. Then I delete the effect from my test project. No problem with it there. But I haven't actually exported with it in my timeline. At what point does it make fcpx crash on you?

I put the "Camera Shake" effect on a clip in a "Compound Clip". FCPX crashed soon after that. When I finally figured out what was going on, and I took the plug in out of my Effects folder, everything was fine again.

I downloaded the plug in again, and installed it with the same crashing result.

I've used other plugins inside of compound clips with no problem.

I hope this can get fixed because it would be very useful. Now I'm using the "Earthquake" plugin, which is really great, but a little too much shaking for the result I'm looking for with this current project.

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Are you applying it to a compound clip or to clips within a compound clip?

Not sure what you problem would be as everything looks to be working fine to me. It works both on a clip inside a compound and on a compound clip.

However be aware that this effect asks a lot of your Mac because of the realistic motion blur that it incorporates so if your specs aren't of an adequate level you will certainly have difficulties.

You should also ahve a look at the Camera Shake filter from FXFactory which has a lot of nice features.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your response to my post.

I've got all the latest software running on my Mac Pro, and 16 gigs of RAM. So, it seems like my gear isn't the problem.

I'll give Camera Shake another try on a regular clip in the timeline and see how that works.

Thanks again for all the great plugin that you create!

If you still get a crash after doing that, make sure to try it on another project. Perhaps there is some corruption with the render files in that one particular project or the associated events. If it crashes on the same project but works on another, you can try to delete all your render files for the troublesome project and its events directly from the finder.
Let us know how you make out.

Hey there,
I have FCPX but i don't have Motion... i've tried to install it but it doesn't work. Is it even possible to install it without Motion? If so, how? because i didn't get to work it out...
Thanks in advanced!

I installed it and that worked fine. But when I use the Camera Shake FCPX drops frame... Do you know how to fix that?

This is a heavy duty effect to process due to the realistic motion blur, which is what makes the effect look good.

Depending on your hardware, you will almost certainly need to render if you want it to play back without dropping frames.

I also applied camera shake to clip in timeline. It made FCPX crash several times to the point it would open only briefly only to crash immedeatly. I had to remove effect from library just to open FCPX ......now all is fine. It may be due to me using a iMac but I am running the latest software with 16gb RAM. Weird......I guess I'll just have to go back to actually shaking the camera...LOL. Just wanted to say that it happened to me as well.
