High dynamic range seems to be effect flavour of the month at the moment. Crumplepop have released ToneGrade, a $75 template plugin for Final Cut Pro X that emulates the look.

So what exactly is HDR or High Dynamic Range? It is a technique that allows the display of a greater range than normal between the lightest and darkest parts of a photo or video. You might have seen the HDR examples where 3 DSLRs have been under, over and correctly exposed and the images combined afterwards. Your iPhone can do the same trick too!

ToneGrade from CrumplePop emulates the look of HDR by using a technique called tone mapping The new plugin for FCPX can be adjusted from subtle enhancement right up to a highly stylized result.

Also included in the ToneGrade plugin are controls for detail recovery, colour grading tools and a smoother to selectively soften skin tones.
