Thought I would join this lovely forum.

I have some Pro Res HQ 720x576 anamorphic clips that were digitised in FCP7.

imported them into an event in FCP X.

Selected a clip and tried all three spatial conforms to see whether it will "pop the clip out" to 16x9 in my new 16x9 Project.

Oh dear. It doesn't do it.

My only option is to do an x scale transform on it... NOT.

It is also incredibly slow at importing footage, even if you bring the files in without copying or transcoding them. At the moment this is FCP X's Favourite Image!

Note that even though this is a still, the transcoding part of it is about as static as this still and isn't moving very much.
