How do you make text wrap? I can't figure out how to do this. There should be an option. Instead, I am having the format a paragraph manually. What's the best way to put a paragraph of text on screen?

Andreas Kiel will be your new best friend ;)

Although there are some title templates in FCP X that will allow you to define boundaries for your text, the best templates I know for doing this are included in the TitleExchange plugin from Spherico:

www.spherico.de/filmtools/TitleExchange/

This is a very powerful plugin for exchanging title information between applications and it is a must-have for anyone who works professionally with subtitles in any NLE. But even if you don't need the professional plugin for your work you can download the trial version and you will get 8 free title templates for FCP X. Any one of these will correctly wrap your text into a paragraph.

Here's a piece of text pasted into the FCP X Basic Title text window, and how the text looks on the screen:

Yep, that's ugly. So I replace the Basic Title template with one of the free Spherico templates:

And instantly my text is wrapped into my text box:

You have full control over every aspect of your wrapped text and you can line up your text exactly how you wish.

Thanks, Ronny. While this is good to know, I don't think one should have to buy a plugin to wrap text in their NLE.

You don't have to buy the plugin to get the free templates.

As I said there are some title templates right inside FCP X that allow for text wrapping, but I find the ones from Spherico simply the best to use, so I just mentioned these. You can also use this custom Paragraph title template:

File Attachment:

File Name: Paragraph.zip
File Size:17 KB

Just click the link to download the file, un-zip it and put the folder into your Motion Templates > Titles folder. Next time you launch FCP X it will show in your Titles browser.

I find it hard to believe that FCPX has not made a simple paragraph text template!! But thanks for the download, Ronny! For a new Mac user like me, would you be so kind as the walk me through the steps of how I move this download into the proper folder so I can use it. I cannot find the Motion Templates folder...where is that located and how do I copy the folder over there? Thanks!!!

Inside your user folder, Movies > Motion Templates, from there into the appropriate type (title, generator, transition, etc).

Thanks BenB and Ronny. I have now got the paragraph title in FCPx, but it still doesn't seem to text wrap. As far as I can see I will still have to choose when to jump to the next line. Is that right?

Hey Sibeal,

Good to hear you figured it out.

BTW: you have a great voice! I See you live in Copenhagen, I have some good friends over there at Metronome Productions.
