Since the public beta for Photos only started last week, it means we're probalby several weeks away from the public launch of Photos for Mac.

Karsten mentioned the 9th March, so I based my reply on his date..

Spring begins on March 21st right?
Unless they mean the meteorological spring, which began on the 1st of March.

Let's wait and see. I'm betting on NAB

Extrapolating something out of nothing, love it. It will be released, when it is released, and no one, not even Ripple Training, knows when. Not holding my breath, or placing bets...

we can always utilize the theory of entropy

ΔStotal=ΔSuniv= ΔSsys + ΔSsurr>0

To predict when the update will arise...

OK, I did the maths, and it comes out to Wednesday, 1:27am Central Time, 2003. Wait, did I carry the remainder over or not? Crap, let me start over...

Was surprised there was no mention of pro apps, I guess Apple waiting for WWDC...
The iMovie update seems to show a small glimmer of hope that FCP X is soon to be updated...

Apple almost never mentions pro apps during hardware announcements. That's normal. I'd not read things into that, which aren't there.

As for Photos, FCPX needs no update to be compatible with Photos. I'm running both on an OS X developer beta laptop, and FCPX sees the Photos library just fine, as is.

The only time in recent memory they were mentioned was when Apple showed off the retina 5K iMac. They're also almost never mentioned mentioned at WWDC.

Ben and Tom are correct.

BTW I quite like the integration of Photos and iMovie. Pictures appear in iMovie exactly as you have organized them in the Photos library. You can sort by Date, Location, Theme, Collections etc...

This is a Collection ("Set") I have made from some photos of the FCP X systems at Metronome Productions in Copenhagen between Jan and March 2015:

Here my photos are organized based on "Moments", which are the creation dates:

And if the pictures were geo-tagged in the camera you can sort them by Location:

But what I like most is that in iMovie you can filter the videos from the photos that are in the Photos library, and you can skim through any video that is inside the Photos browser:

It's a start, but it looks promising.

I can not hide my heritage, 10y using iMovie ... :silly:

Speaking of iMovie:
When you dig a bit deeper into the .pkg, you'll find this littel germ:

In the Title-section, there's a category 'AppStore' (=not so in the corresponded FCPX/Motion Templates)
For years I'm saying: what about add-ons, plug-ins, Themes & Trailers from 3rd party developers ... ??

Strange enough: only Titles have this sub-catgory ....

Regarding Photos, I noted that on Apple's website for the new 12" MacBook it shows iPhoto as an included app. That would indicate the Photos update won't be out (OS X 10.10.3) until after that. It's possible the next FCPX update will be after that as well unless the Photos hooks are build in preceding the OS X update.

iMovie has the hook and it was released before 10.10.3. All three apps should appear in the iMovie photo browser if you have libraries for Photos, iPhoto, or Aperture.

Kremlinology report is that Tom hints that FCPX 10.1.5 will be out before 10.10.3. ;)
Given that there was just an iMovie update, the FCPX update should be soonish.

BTW the iMovie update adds XAVC-S support so one might expect XAVC-L support in FCPX (one hopes).

Apple must be struggling for server space to have to push updates 1 app at a time..

Apple pushes updates whenever they feel they are ready, server space is not one of their concerns. And yes, iMovie now supports XAVC-S...

It's not clairvoyance or any foreknowledge. The current version of FCP will see Photos as Ronny illustrated.

As Tom says, it's no secret. Anyone who runs the Yosemite public beta will see Photos in the FCP X stills browser.
