A big question for our brand new shiny forum on sunny Monday morning:

When are you going to download, install and use FCPX?

I'm split

On one machine it will get installed as soon as it appears on the Apple website
On the other machine that gets used for editing to earn money, I'll wait until people have had experience of both versions running side by side.

I just hope that the keyboard shortcuts are similar so that it will be easy to flip between the two.

What about you?

On a single test machine until I know how it works and what it does.

I will first load it on my laptop and do a few personal projects. Then when I feel like I can really edit on it I will load it on my main machine. I actually have alot more faith in it after Larry jordans blog talking about his comment. I hope it is true that he now feels it's ready for pro use.

Like, the minute it comes out. I've been in a lull from editing for a couple years and haven't updated since FCE 3.5, so FCPX is going to be a nice kick in the pants to get moving again.

I'm hoping there will be tutorials to give us the basics of FCPX! But I must confess, I'm keen to get my hands on it as soon as possible!:P

The instant it comes out.
I actually have a personal project shot that's still sitting on my SxS cards. I'm going to do a full, end-to-end project as quickly as possible, just to see what the entire workflow is like.

I'm still on Leopard and FCStudio 2, so I'm not sure how I can get it (ie I'm without the Mac App Store) without the expense of buying / hassle of installing Snow Leopard first, as ideally I'd want to go straight to Lion before getting FCPX.

I'd also want to make sure that Motion, either from my current build or from a new App, work with it from day one.

Well, as everyone else I'm gona get FCP X the second it's available on the Mac app store! However,I've seen a great tutorial from David Roth Weiss on creative cow about setting up different booting partitions so we can keep FCP 7 with Snow leopard on one partition,FCP X with Snow leopard on a 2nd partition and FCP X with lion on a third partition! it looks like a great way to have a secure passage between diffrent versions and operating systems.

Here's the link to the tutorial library.creativecow.net/weiss_roth_david/FCP-10-MAC-Lion/1

I am ready to go: have a new external drive for the laptop with dedicated partitions. Now in the process of setting a new internal drive on the macpro for same purpose.

As an Apple trainer I'll have to get up to speed quickly so it looks like part of my holidays will be spent on the laptop...

I thought they would release it today! foolish me :-) Guess I'll buy it tomorrow then...

I'll definitely get it the second I can. The real question is, when will I use it to actually make a finished product?

I have a dual boot system - Snow Leopard and Lion; each one on a Velociraptor drive. FCPX will go directly (when available) onto the Lion system and will not cohabit with FCP7.

As soon as it hit's the street! Only for a test machine, though. I won't go production until I thoroughly understand it, as "income is good"!
