It was an inaccurate guess based on Apple shuffling their Final Cut support page around late on Wednesday night! :woohoo:

At least recent patents awarded to Apple hint that Final Cut has not gone into maintenance mode. I've written up an Apple patent covering audio on my public Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Alex4D/

Hey Alex,

No problem, and thank you for clarifying this.

To everyone who loves to speculate:

You don't have to be under any NDA, nor do you need to be a clairvoyant, to know that there will be some exciting news coming in the next few months. All the signs are here, you just need to read them. Now let the speculation continue :woohoo:

Don't want to bust your bubble, but there are many Patents for FCP years back that haven't made it today.
Real fact is nobody except for a few know.

Have FCPX updates come usually in the morning or afternoon? I thought I remember some updates coming in at 2pm Pacific time.

I saw this post on Facebook and I was a bit shock and worried when I read this post about the future update of FCPX (10.3) coming this October.

Can't believe this thread was languishing on page 4!

So, chances of something being announced tomorrow FCPX wise?

I think it's pretty clear that FCPX 10.3 won't be released until October or after/at the same time Sierra is released. Either FCPX 10.3 relies on Sierra (which I doubt), it's being held for Macbook Pro/Mac Pro refreshes or it wasn't ready to be released yet and has nothing to do with the other two.

*Perhaps some features require Sierra, but since it was shown off at NAB prior to WWDC where Sierra was released, it makes sense that it can still run on El Capitan.

At this point, given CC has made their announcement, it might be nice if Apple had a sneak peek announcement. I just don't see the need for secrecy at this point. I don't get the silence strategy at this point.

I know this maybe has never been raised, but I have been thinking about the number one thing that is bugging me in FCPX, and well for a long time, I could not distill it to something concrete then tonight, whilst reading the how to edit a music video just posted on the front page, it hit me...

Markers.. Yes yes I know, markers are there, and well there is a huge thing no one has mentioned, and well it is this...

Why do markers have to be attached to anything? Why not have them be fixed in time according to the master timecode, so that they become an anchor on which you connect clips to, instead of connecting to actual video media, the marker is not attached to any video, it is it self a sort of island that is fixed according to the timecode when you set the marker.

This way, if you move, delete, trim, the video/audio it does not move, and any connected clips remain attached to the marker.

Having fixed markers, and yes they have to be colored, solves so many minor frustrations I have...ideas???

Certainly not a bad idea. I can see the use of this.

I have suggested this to Apple via Feedback. Have you? If not you kindly should.

This is associated to the "blank text layer" usage that has been so useful for many thus far....

Indeed, an adjustment layer can be used as a fixed bar where you can add markers that won't move with any clips.

Indeed, but the clips are all connected to the primary storyline, and that is a huge problem.

If you change the connection point to the marker, this creates multiple primary storylines, so that you have much more freedom to edit.

Markers could become the one thing that pushes FCPX into a new dimension, it takes magnetic timeline editing to a far more powerful state.

You should still be able to connect to primary storyline, but why? That is just stupid and lazy...It creates more problems than it solves...My idea quite frankly shocked me when I realized what this means...

Having fixed markers would be a nice extra, but in no way does this take away the fact that connected clips should be attached to the storyline clips. That is exactly what makes FCP X so powerful, and it's something no other NLE has.

So you want... track based editing?

Here's the deal: the primary storyline works on more levels than just a backbone to a story to build onto. It's not wrong to say something drives the story forward. It's not always a main video track. Sometimes it's an audio track. In this case, the audio is in the primary storyline and video clips are connected.

You can even put a gap clip in the primary storyline (with markers that are locked in time... To the gap clip) and audio and video tracks are free to move around as connected clips.

I see genius in this method. The primary storyline has a ton of workflows that aren't possible in track-based editors.

Heavens no, no track based editor...never, I hope, no...

I am not suggesting that markers are the only option, but I have found it would have been mighty useful to be able to connect to something other than the primary storyline, the marker serves many functions, and as an additional connection point helps solves a few frustrations.

No question the power of FCPX is mighty, and yes everything you say is valid, I am not disputing that, look it would help me as an editor, maybe not for you, it was just a thought I had, about what was bugging me, and having multiple ways to connect clips is better than 1 option only! That is all

Further from Larry Jordan: "And, this may come as a surprise, but Apple has a big announcement planned for Wednesday. So if ever there was a weekend where NOTHING is happening, this is it. Next week, the lid should blow off - with plenty to talk about. But, not today. Sigh... "

I could be wrong but I've not known him to report on either iPhone/consumer technology or be freewheeling with hyperbole or enthusiasm about release dates - maybe there are some tea leaves to read here.

One thing is for certain with FCPX, the only certainty is uncertainty. I remember when it was said on here "absolutely no Friday releases" and we received a Friday release the same week. So who knows anymore?

Hope its soon and happy cutting.

Some kind of fixed layer adjuster with marker customization sounds cool. But it would be great to click this on or off...

I really just want full marker customization and some kind of innate FCPX solution for the Blank Adjustment Layer
