I just purchased a new iMac and am going to set up FCPX on it. What’s the easiest way to transfer or copy all my plug-ins over. Can I at least copy the Motion folder over? I know I can re-download all my Noise Industry plug-ins. Any advice will be extreamly helpful!! Unfortunately I’m not sure where I stored many when I originally downloaded many of them.

You can copy the contents of the Motion Templates folder across.

You can use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder (I think) to transfer your files from your old machine to the new or Super Duoer or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your old hard drive to the new. Some plugins may require that you enter licence info again.

Copying Motion templates is sensible but on a new machine I’d not use the cloning techniques mentioned. It’s more work but you can’t beat a clean install for speed and stability of your new machine. Cloning, and Migration Assistant, copies a lot of stuff you don’t want .

… plugins native habitat is the ~/Movies/Motion Templates folder …
For most plugins: simply drag the folder on some stick, transfer, done.

… some commercial products (fxfactory, coremelt, et al) prefer to 'hide' fully or at last components in other locations. I strongly suggest a re-download of the original Installer from the manufacturers website - we're talking of a few MBs max.-

next stop "where the %$§"!! did I store my serial#??!" :silly:

Thanks to all of you. I believe I’ll move some stuff from the Motion folder but the rest I wlll reinstall. Easy, I believe, to get Serial numbers again especially from FX Factory.

Thanks again. Now I’m waiting eagerly for 10.4!
