So today I purchased and installed two seperate plugins from Pixel Film Studios. One is a motion blur effect, one is a DOF effect. They sent me the download link and everything went smooth. "Installation Successful"
However when I go to use it in a clip ,everything starts acting all bogged down, and I had a pop up several times that said ""your system has run out of application memory, to avoid problems with your computer please close all apps you are not using" I don't know whats going on because I only have a few third party apps on this computer. It's a late 2017 iMac with 40GB of memory. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to look for to verify if I am actually out of memory? Or should I contact PixelFS? Or reinstall the plugin? IDK I need some advice because I'd really like to use these plugins. Thanks in Advance
First, we need to know two numbers: capacity of your drive, and how much free space is left on the drive.
Second, I personally am not a fan of PixelFilms, I don't trust them, and I've heard from several students that they do not answer tech support requests. So I'm highly prejudiced against them.
You should be able to find the same functions in plugins from reputable developers. FxFactory is a great place to get plugins with the same functions.
But that out of memory error message can be caused by drive space, so please give us those two numbers. If that proves to not be the cause, yeah, get in touch with the developer, and hope you have better luck than my 3 students had.
I agree with FCPX.guru.
Stay away from Pixel studio. Once you have the plugin just do your best to make it work because you won't get much support. I got one plugin once and it is also horribly slow and buggy. Deleted it from my plugins.
PixelFilm has answered my e-mails. When FCPX updated once, it broke one of their plug-ins and I had to request that they update it. They responded pretty quickly with an update link. I know they responded to me at least one other time as well. Just my 2 cents.
Also nobody at FX Factory makes anything like PixelFilm's "Projection" to my knowledge.
Ok I have like 900gb available out of 1TB so that couldn't have been the issue. Idk it started working smoothly now after I restarted it a couple times. However the stinking thing is so hard to use I couldn't get any decent results out of the depth of field effect. They make it sound so easy "drag and drop the desired effect" My A@!
Guess I need some seat time with it
Pixel film studios plugins are very creative. There are no companies like them, but the QA is a joke. Quite few plugins crash the application, conflict with other plugins like Core Melt. Especially 3D, some freeze the computer. There is no tech support to fix the problem, they just refund your money back.
I wish they had local programmers, I have a feeling it's programmed overseas.
