Hi all!

I just received the good news that there's money for a refurbished Macbook Pro! Yay!

Now to stay within the budget I can either opt for more RAM (32GB instead of 16GB) or a faster processor (2,9GHz 6-Core instead of 2,6GHz 6-Core). The SSD will be 1TB anyway.

What would you consider the better choice for FCPX and why? I do hardly ever need more than four 4K-Streams in my multicam setups. My most time consuming task is to sometimes stitch GoPro Fusion 360° footage (takes ages with my 2015 MBPR at the moment).

Thanks for some guidance! I am happy that there's a budget for me and would like to spend it wisely.

Sebastian

I'd say go with 2.6ghz, 16gb Ram but get the Vega20 graphics...

Edit: ah, refurbished, maybe then you cannot choose so specificly?

The difference between 2,9GHz 6-Core and 2,6GHz 6-Core will be minuscule, you won't notice it, don't sweat that.

16 GB RAM is plenty. I've yet to see my 32 GB RAM come anywhere near filled.

If I had to choose, I may go with the processor, if RAM can be upgraded later. If RAM can't be, then I'd go with the more RAM.

That all said, GPU is more important than either of those.

Hi guys,

thanks, this helped a lot. I sort of lived under a stone the past months and was not really aware of the benefits of the Vega 20. After watching some Youtube-Clips I am sold. Managed to talk my boss into getting the model you suggested, Dmitri :) Yay!

Congrats!

I bought mine (2.6ghz with 32gb ram) just a few months before they Vega20 became available. Very annoying...
