OK, so I haven't done a ton of work with captions and we're now doing a project with about 7 hours of videos that range from 5 to 25 minutes. Each video will have about 7 languages including English as part of the captions deliverable. I did a brief test of Simon Says and was really impressed with interface. The customer service was good as they responded in real-time to some of my process questions.

What I want to know is: what's the best way to share this material with my client with all of the languages in each MOV. This will allow them to review each language with their partners to check for spelling/syntax errors before we finalize things. If this will ulitmately end up in YouTube, I assume I should be creating iTT captions.

I still don't understand if there are any formats where all of the captions can be embedded in a single .MOV file. I was thinking of sharing the WIPs via Dropbox, but not sure what kind of caption support that offers.

Should we be creating packages using Compressor?

Any tips on workflow would be welcome.

You can use SRT and Subler to add multiple language tracks.
Or create a local website on Dropbox and VTT captions.

So there’s no way to create a multi-language captioned MOV from either FCPX or Compressor? Is a file with more than one caption track an oddball thing? Seems like something that would make sense.

I have been using this software which can embed SRT

itunes.apple.com/ca/app/subtitle-writer/id889582450?mt=12

More testing done ... and I couldn't get any results from SUBLER since my originals were ProRES .mov.
So FCPX does not do it , DaVinci does not do it, Compressor does not do it but SUBLER can on H264 (mp4) originals and finally SUBTITLE WRITER can do it on both MP4 and MOV + more sources. Bin Liu also creates many useful APPS for subtitles (on the "APP Store") I also use SRT converter ( quite useful ) with good update rate. Remember this article:

A great ressource also and most creative film tools maker is Andreas Kiel ( spherico.com ).
Many thanks for all the great utilities.

Hmmmm.... We just bought 6 languages of subtitles and thought we could just bring them into FCPX and embed them as we do with the English ones. I guess we were dead wrong. Totally lost now. Going to have to figure this out. I cannot find an App called subtitle writer but will keep looking. This was a courtesy for a client and now has created a lot of extra work it seems. Sigh.

Not sure what you mean by "... we could just bring them into FCPX and embed them as we do with the English ones..."
What format are the subtitles you "bought"

We bought SRT, SCC (CEA-608).

I thought we could just import each as a separate role.

I would also like to be able to do something like that, but unfortunately, I don't know English so well and at the moment I'm trying to improve my English skills by developing my vocabulary, which I think is essential. I found a site that helps me a lot, being a vocabulary worksheets section where I constantly learn new things. This site englishlinx.com seemed to be the most interesting, there being really provocative and useful words. Overall, I know I still have a lot to learn but I am ambitious and I know for sure that I will have beautiful results.
