Hi all, after adding a drop shadow to a compound clip it seems to double when the text element of the compound starts to appear! Have disabled it all is ok with drop shadow! The text is the fcpx 'custom' text plugin. AS I've got the custom text to do same text animation I'd like to use it if possible but may need to revert to the basic text?
Attached two pics showing before/after. Think it might be to do with dissolve added to text?
All advice welcome - thanks

If I understand your issue correctly, it appears you are applying the drop shadow directly onto the compound clip. This will affect clips contained within the compound and may be causing the result you are seeing. Instead of doing that, break apart the clip items ( or double click on the compound clip to open in the timeline) and then drag the drop shadow to only the specific item inside the compound clip that you want it on. Use the project navigation arrows to exit out of the open compound clip.

Or leave the text clip out of the compound, as a separate connected clip.

The dissolve was indeed added to the text before it was compounded. The reason I wanted to put the text inside the clip was because it was then compounded again with another compound both of which needed to beck out over a background layer. Think I may have to live without the dissolve?

Picture of almost final version - text hexagons move from behind face hexagons - was hoping that text would animate as it appeared and settled into position

I'd actually be doing all of this in Motion, myself.

Yes I'm sure you are right but given the deadlines and my lake of motion experience I think I'll forgo the dissolve for the moment. Cheers
