What version are you using? Can you tell us what the media is and about the drives you’re using?

i'm not sure if this would be the issue but my video currently sits on my desktop and my desktop is sitting in the icloud?

Yes. I’m surprised you could import if the media in the cloud. Usually the application won’t let you. Make sure the file is stored locally.

So FCPX is still wanting to lock up. I don't have to be doing anything in particular for it to lock.
When i just recently locked i was actually responding to an email and came back to FC and it was locked.
Any thoughts on what to try? I heard having google chrome installed could cause it? It locked up when using firefox too?

What do you mean by lock exactly? Does the pointer freeze and not move; is the whole system locked? Are you getting a spinning beachball? Video doesn't play?

Uninstall Chrome completely. Use Safari or Firefox.

It sounds as if there is a system problem, like you should do a clean install of the OS.

It sounds like either a system problem, for which you should do a clean install. It may also be a hardware problem. Hopefully not.

What Tom said. This isn't FCPX locking up, rather the entire *machine* is locking up. In general a user-mode application cannot cause this, due to the CPU's hardware-enforced isolation between different address spaces.

It can *appear* the app causes it, just like it appears a heavy truck caused a bridge to collapse. However that bridge was damaged and the truck was well within the weight limit. People might say "it never collapsed before until that truck came along". But the bridge was internally damaged. That problem cannot be fixed by using lighter-weight trucks. Likewise with an entire Mac hanging, the problem cannot be fixed by changing something in an app. It must be addressed at a system level, which means things like OS, kernel extensions, hardware, disk space, etc.

Yes - system has been acting a bit funny recently. In the process of doing a clean os install. Thank you for your insight and great analogy.
