My maximum level of recording from Audio Interface is -6 even if I'm screaming into the mic. I do use XLR mic with Focusrite 4i4 3rd gen (tried as well steinberg ur22c and basically FCPX can record only in Mono or stereo with only one channel.

I cannot choose gain from the app as it's graded out. If I use my old USB microphone - everything works.

Someone had similar situation. How do you record VO with non USB mic?

Have you contacted the Focusrite support staff? They might be able to help you out in case no one in these forums can.

Can you specify the mic make/model and the audio interface you're using? Some actually limit themselves.

I use AKG 314 with Focusright 4i4 3rd gen (tried Steinberg UR22C as well.
I've asked Steinberg as well but it's complete silence from their part, combined with worst software from the 2008 I was thinking that there might be a problem, but no...
I wrote an email to Focusrite last night, but as it's Cover 19 times, I do not expect quick reply.

I will buy a splitter Y and will try to record a stereo from 1 mic, but at least it will put 2 same mono signals into one file.

Don't get the Y splitter, it won't help. Two channels of the same audio is still a mono recording, and risks phase issues.

If all you get is -6db audio max, feel blessed, you're not peaking and getting distortion. Simply increase the gain. You don't want audio much over that anyway.

This Mic requires 48v phantom. Is that enabled? Sorry if you already knew this.

Assuming you have phantom power (without which the mic would basically be inaudible) some mic pres/audio interfaces have more gain or input sensitivity than others. Have you tried using this combo with other DAWs (Logic, Pro Tools, Audition, Audacity)? Is this something that is unique to FCPX?

Another option would be to use an analog Mic Pre ( like a Sound Devices MixPre) To boost the signal and come in line level.

Again, why do anything? You're getting a good strong signal at -6db now, that's where it should be.
