TOPIC: Setup Question - Space

Setup Question - Space 21 May 2020 11:33 #107363

Hello first time poster, long time poser. =)

I have not used FCP in ages, and new to FCPX. I would like to try it out, and have notice a particular difference, namely no defining of a "Scratch disk."

My particular use case is having a 1TB "working disk" for my active project, and other (not so fast disks) as additional storage. My problem is that single 1TB is getting gobbled up - to where it is full! My project is large, I admit, but 1TB not being enough? FCPX is rendering all the files in the background (til it runs out of space).

I guess I just need to change this behavior - since lot of my footage i don't even want to use, just will need to go through it--but don't need to save a rendered copy of everything.

Any pro tips or suggestions about how to save some space? Is that feasible, to have a single 1TB Working space?

Switch off optimize and proxy in import to start. I'd suggest looking at a introduction video like this from izzyvideo on YouTube. Ripple Training also has an introductory course. Both are free.

Turn off Background Rendering in the Preferences, also!

Everything, at its most basic, is self-contained in the Library.

And what Tom said.
