Hello. My first visit and I will confess to being a newcomer to FCPX so please forgive my asking this if it has already been asked many times before.
I have wanted for some now to try learn about Final Cut Pro X and, as it is currently being offered on a 90 day trial, I thought 'what better time?'
So, I recently did a clean install of OSX 10.14.6 Mojave on my, admittedly ageing, MacBook Pro and duly downloaded the free trial of FCPX 10.4.8.
After installation I have, unfortunately, been completely unable to get it to open. It consistently crashes and says it has 'quit unexpectedly'' and will not 'reopen'.

In Terminal I get the following:

Lauries-MacBook-Pro:~ lauriemacdonald$ /Applications/Final\ Cut\ Pro\ Trial.app/Contents/MacOS/Final\ Cut\ Pro\ Trial ; exit;
2020-06-14 11:50:19.510 Final Cut Pro Trial[702:16483] PGLMasterCGLPixelFormat(): Framebuffer is 8 bit

...completed.

Forgive my ignorance but, can anyone explain the "Could not find image named 'Share' and how I can rectify this. Also, what may be causing the "Segmentation fault: 11"

I have tried the 'delete preferences' with Command + Option but still no joy.

I would be most grateful if anyone may be able to assist with this issue. Many thanks.

Please give the complete specs of the system including graphics and drives. It is odd that a Share error would appear on launch. Go to Software Update and see if there is anything else to install.

Many thanks for the reply, Tom - much appreciated.

There was another install to do (Pro Video Codecs) which I have now done. After restart, running the FCPX Terminal exec now reads as follows -

/Applications/Final\ Cut\ Pro\ Trial.app/Contents/MacOS/Final\ Cut\ Pro\ Trial ; exit;

Still shows the 'Could not find the image named 'Share' - so no luck there.

Specs for my MacBook Pro are as follows:
Model 6,2 - MacOS Mojave
Processor: 2.66GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
Intel HD Graphics 288 MB
SSD: 1Tb Samsung Evo850
HDD: 2TB

Am guessing my poor old machine is probably verging on the side of ancient but, after managing to successfully upgrade to Mojave, with a view to trying to start learning FCPX having seen the offer of the 90 day trial, has led me to this point.

It is a shame, though. If I use the 'Delete Preferences' then the program opens and the "Whats new in Final Cut Pro X" splash screen appears. Soon as I click on 'Continue' though, it closes.

Guess I am out of luck ...... seemed hopeful for a while!

A final question then: was there, in the past, a version of Final Cut Pro that would work with my MacBook Pro version and spec? If so, where could I source and purchase this.Thank you

6,2 is Mid 2010. It can’t run Mojave. It’s last OS should be 10.13.6. The only trial version is there for the current application.

Yes, I appreciate that - I am going to take it back to High Sierra.

No, what my question was asking really is, will the spec of my MacBook Pro - specifically the GPUs - be capable of running any previous version of Final Cut Pro X? Am happy to buy it but won't pursue if it is pointless.

Thank you, once again, for your time in responding to my questions - very much appreciated.

It’ll run 10.3.6 for basic projects. Purchasing it is difficult, as Apple only sells the current version.
