I have a project that is timed at 52min47sec but once the file is exported it shows as being 52min50sec long.
If I open the file in QuickTime it also shows the duration as 52min50.
But if I open the file back in FCPX it will show as 52min47.

It's important for me that the rendered file is precisely 52min47 long.
I suspect this is something to do with fps but I'm not sure how I can readdress that issue now.

Would be grateful for any tip on how I can get the rendered file to be the same duration as the original project.

What is the frame rate of the project? Are you working in 29.97? Make sure drop frame is check in project settings.
