Mpeg2 isn't much supported in FCPX. You're going to have to convert it to H.264 or ProRes first. I'd go with H.264.

The JVC 550E supports many different codecs. As FCPX.guru said, you can either pick one that works with FCPX or stick with the MPEG-2 codec and convert it externally. Handbrake, the free version of DaVinci Resolve or EditReady2 might do this; you'll need to explore that: www.divergentmedia.com/editready

Camera codecs supported by JVC 550E:

ProRes 422HQ 4:2:2 10-Bit:
3840 x 2160p up to 50/60 fps
ProRes 422 4:2:2 10-Bit:
3840 x 2160p up to 50/60 fps
ProRes 422LT 4:2:2 10-Bit:
3840 x 2160p up to 50/60 fps
H.264 4:2:2 10-Bit:
3840 x 2160p at 24/25/30 fps (150 Mb/s)
H.264 4:2:0 8-Bit:
3840 x 2160p at 24/25/30 fps (70 Mb/s)
H.264 4:2:2 10-Bit:
1920 x 1080p (8 to 50 Mb/s)
H.264 4:2:0 8-Bit:
1280 x 720p (8 to 50 Mb/s)
H.264:
720 x 480 (8 Mb/s)
960 x 540 (1.2 to 3 Mb/s)
480 x 270 (1.2 to 3 Mb/s)
MPEG-2:
1920 x 1080 (25 to 35 Mb/s)
1440 x 1080 (25 to 35 Mb/s)
1280 x 720 (25 to 35 Mb/s)
