Hello to all, thanks for having a forum and for looking at my post.

I am an absolute beginner in video editing and in the mac world. Been away from apple since the IIc+ of the early 90s. My job requires me to learn this stuff for a very specific application so looking for some advice on where to get some tutorials that would apply to me.

We use a ubiquiti security camera system to record training events. This system requires us to us a PC as the control station. Each camera creates video in 10 min blocks in its own folder. An event typically creates 1-4 gig of data.

I need to move the data from PC to MACbook pro fast and with out corruption. A cable being ideal or being able to move a hard drive from one system to the other.

I did lots of searches and i find lots of info on using the cloud to do it or a direct wireless connection, lots of info on doing a one time move from a pc to a mac, but i need to do this frequently and just the video data i want to move.

Once moved i will just be doing basic editing. Removing dead air, cleaning up the look. Not doing a pro job, at least until i can provide the above product fast and good.

Thank you for looking and for having a place to look for answers.

Can you network the two together? I move files between PCs and my Mac at the TV station all the time via our LAN. Connected by Ethernet cable will give you best speed, but Wifi isn't that bad.

If the company won't allow that, if the PC has Wifi capability, you can create a Wifi network on your Mac, and set the PC up to join it.

Or a USB 3 thumb drive (fast ones aren't that cheap, but worth it).

What solution are you going with? The point here is to share so we can help others, also.

For the file transfer I purchased a 1 TB SSD external drive per kit, to prevent any possible virus issues, even though it is a closed system. We have never had an event that would require more data than that and if that arises ill do 2 transfers until we upgrade drives.

For the basic editing training im using youtube for now but looking for a more organized approach to learning it.
