Michael Mehlhorn created a new topic ' Basic Text Not Center/Aligning Properly' in the forum. 4 years ago

I was working on adding a title to the end of my video and I noticed that when I center align some text it does not actually center. This has me confused as I can't figure out why this is the case.

I'm using a basic title, and the only specification I'm asking is to center align. There are NO spaces at the end of the text to throw off the alignment and it comes out wrong.

Here is what I'm getting...

[File Attachment: AlignmentIncorrectCenterImage.jpg]

and here is the untouched settings that makes it off center...

[File Attachment: ScreenShot2016-08-24at3.13.33PM.png]

Now to make it center, I can move the position under the Video tab over to around -65 on the X axis to make it better and it turns out like this...

Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening? I feel the default center alignment options should be accurate. I even placed in a grid at low opacity to check, so i know its not just me. Anyone else have this issue?

Not sure why it's happening, my project is a standard 1920x1080. I used a solid "Custom" generator to provide a title background for a video I'm working on and when I export the size of the generator is converted to something smaller. Whats weird though is viewing it on the timeline, it looks correct. Any suggestions?

Michael Mehlhorn created a new topic ' Where can I find Motion Designer's for hire?' in the forum. 4 years ago

I have a fairly simple Lower Third that I need created that I would really like to make a title that lives in FCPX. I can provide the design of the title that I want, but since it will be used for 100+ training videos I will need parameters to be editing in FCPX for bar width or text that adapts in size. It will also need a build in/out. Does anyone know of a site where I can potentially hire a Motion 5 designer on a small per project basis?

Thanks for the tip! Do you think there is a way to do a more permanent, app-wide solution like replacing the Title Action Safe overlay? I'd like something other than dragging over a generator, and extending it for each of my sequences if possible.

I like the Title/Action Safe overly, but sometimes I feel like I need a Proportional Grid like the one After Effects offers.

Obviously this isn't built into FCPX, but is there anyway to add it in? Maybe even replace the Title/Action Safe graphic? Has anyone found a way to get this in. I would like it to work with my projects, even if they are of different dimensions/resolutions.

I am working on a few different outro options for logo placement and I find that I usually have a Slack or Chat window open talking through changes. Sometimes I'll grab quick screen grab and toss it in the chat so people can see what I am working on, but with animation and transitions people don't always know what I'm talking about when I say fly/fade/dissolve/wipe etc.

Is there any way to do a range selection of a portion of my timeline and export (in as little steps as possible) a gif that I can quickly send over in a chat?

Hey guys,

I've seen a lot of presentations (in powerpoint) recently come across the trend of using a graphic or visual navigation and guides somewhere on every slide to show what portion of the presentation you are in. For example if you have 6 topics to go through you can easily look in the corner of ANY slide and see which of the 6 sections you are on. This is a great way to see where you are in the presentation as a whole and can really help in terms of audience engagement.

I know i've seen similar things in video before, but I can't seem to find any at the moment. Does anybody do this in there videos? Im trying to find design ideas and examples of how this looks in terms of video. Is it a bug? lower third? does it stay up the whole time, or do you just go back to it when you change sections (like a table of contents)? Would love to see if anyone has done this or knows of any examples!

Thanks! This is perfect!

Have recently been looking into improving the quality of audio in my work and came across some great tips for blending music and voice to get the levels right and the voice to stand out on its own. From my understanding this seems to work well..

For the Voice:

  • Lower Levels so it peaks around -6 and -8
  • Using a standard EQ drop off the bars UNDER 128

For the Music:
  • Lower Levels to between -16 and -20
  • Using a standard EQ make a small pocket around the 1k bar. (I lower 1k down two notches to -6 and lower each bar on either side down 1 notch to -3

This alone seems to really help my audio and because I want to do this all of the time, I want to make audio EQ presets so I can drag and drop these settings. I don't need the volume to be part of the preset as I know I will need to adjust that for each clip individually based on recording level/diversity of the clip, but even having a drop on filter for the EQ settings I use would be awesome!

Is this possible? How would I go about creating this?

Lastly, do you have any other tips/best practices for basic audio mixing?

Working on some tutorial-style training videos where I have live footage of my talent introduce themselves and the topic they are covering, then a screen cap recording of them showing the process, and then back to my talent to wrap up.

I think I may have started to make a mistake though when it comes to frame rates as my camera footage portions of my finished product appear to be ever so slightly sped up. It's not chipmunk speed but I noticed the voice is slightly higher and faster than the rest of the tutorial. I've made a mess of frame rates and so I did a little research into what is wrong. When looking into it I discovered..

  • My camera footage of the intro/outro was shot on a Canon DSLR at 23.98p (But when i synchronize clip with the audio recorded from my external recorder it shows as 23.98i in my project)
  • My screen recording that was recorded from the computer in Screenflow was exported at 30p but whens synced with the audio recorded from my external recorder shows as 30i
  • My animated intro bumper form AE says it is 25p
  • My project says its 25p in the settings.

I've already edited out several of these tutorials, so I need to know...

What I can do to fix my current videos?
How do I prevent this in the future as we start to record more of these?

Has anyone encountered this? Any ideas?

Michael Mehlhorn created a new topic ' FCPX 10.2 3D Titles + CoreMelt TrackX' in the forum. 5 years ago

So I noticed that Apple when advertising new features on the Final Cut website has a small highlight reel showing the 3D Text effects, however almost all of their examples have text that is tracked and placed in the scene. I know you can keyframe position and probably use the tracker in Motion, but for the purposes of staying in FCPX entirely, is there currently anyway to track the new 3D text to a scene?

I don't have it but I was looking into CoreMelt's TrackX which happens to be on sale for NAB and was wondering how well these two things would work together. Has anybody used TrackX, specifically with he new 3D Text Effects?

Michael Mehlhorn replied to the topic 'Can I export separate videos from one Sequence?' in the forum. 6 years ago

Do you know if I can use "Send to Compressor" and repeat steps so I can create a Batch Export or does this only work for exporting from within FCPX?

Michael Mehlhorn created a new topic ' Can I export separate videos from one Sequence?' in the forum. 6 years ago

I have an hour and a half Keynote presentation and the client has decided they want it split into 5 sections on Youtube. Instead of uploading 1 video file to Youtube, they want to break the video into 5 videos, and make a playlist. I was trying to find the easiest way to export this from FCPX. Currently everything is in the same timeline/project.

Is there a way I can put in 5 markers for where the chapters should be and have FCPX export 5 different videos? Should I dup the project 5 times and just physically cut it all? Does anyone have any ideas?

Michael Mehlhorn replied to the topic 'Do MTS files need to be optimized?' in the forum. 6 years ago

Sorry, I didn't realize MTS wasn't specific enough. I believe he shot with a Sony FS 700, but unfortunately the info on the file doesn't tell me any more info than that.

Michael Mehlhorn created a new topic ' Do MTS files need to be optimized?' in the forum. 6 years ago

So i just had some footage shot remotely from a crew that shot on Sony cameras. They delivered the video in several MTS files and I imported and started to edit. Wasn't sure whether I needed to, but after import I optimized the footage in FCPX. It seems after I optimized the footage is giving me a lot of beach balls in FCPX. I don't know why but it seems to chug now.

So overall question: Do I need to Optimize MTS files? Does it benefit me in any way? For reference I am working off a USB 3.0 Lacie Rugged Drive and my machine is a 15" MBP Retina.
