You can turn the behaviour on and off by rigging its Custom Mix to your widget. 0 = means original colour, 1 = same as colour linked to.

The trick is to make a number generator that counts decimal time from a start point of your choice, then have two other number generators show the minutes part of that decimal time and the seconds part of that decimal time.

Here is a generator that counts 30 seconds from any value you like:

Open this in Motion to see how this works, and make something that works for you!

Tip to make a couple of small changes to add a little animation:

Extend the two 'Link New Xpos' behaviors so they start a couple of frames before the insert word moves. Then change the 'Mix Over Time' to 'Ease in' and change the 'Mix Time Range' to 5.0:

Here's a couple of screenshots showing what I mean.

Working with Custom Metadata

Final Cut Pro X can incorporate custom metadata described in an FCPXML document. (Refer to the Final Cut Pro X XML Format documentation for more details.) These custom metadata items do not appear in the Info Inspector until you add the respective fields to a metadata view. Refer to the Final Cut Pro X Help for more information.

Final Cut Pro X supports a mechanism for adding metadata definitions and view sets through external metadata definition files. This mechanism allows production facilities and third-party applications to install such definition files on each Final Cut Pro X station where the metadata definitions and view sets are needed.

The definition file is a plist file that Final Cut Pro X reads and uses to augment the interface with facility-specific views. You should put this plist file in one of the following locations so Final Cut Pro X can find it:

/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Metadata Definitions/
~/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Metadata Definitions/
The plist file has the following structure:

Root (Dictionary)
com.apple.proapps.MetadataDefinitions — Definition (Dictionary)
com.apple.proapps.MetadataViewSets — View Set (Dictionary)
Definition (Dictionary)—The key is the Metadata identifier key (for example, com.yourCompany.yourApp.yourCustomMetadata).
displayName (String)—The name to be displayed in the Name field of the Final Cut Pro X Inspector and Metadata View Set Editor.
displayDescription (String)—The description to be displayed in the Description field of the Final Cut Pro X Metadata View Set Editor.
type (String)—The data type of this metadata, for example, string, boolean, integer, float (these are the same Metadata types as are used in FCPXML).
source (String)—The source of the metadata (for example, ‘EXIF’, ‘Apple’, ‘BBC’, ‘<your company name>’) to be displayed in the Origin field of the Final Cut Pro X Metadata View Set Editor.
editable (Boolean)—Whether the user can modify this metadata.
View Set (Dictionary)
displayName (String)
keys (String Array)—An array of metadata identifiers (in reverse DNS style).
Listing 3-1 shows an example metadata definition file.

Back in September 2011, the ProApps team submitted a patent for applying effects to timeline clips based on their metadata tags. The examples they included in the patent was showing how all clips with a 'Dialog' role or a 'SFX' could be controlled by a fader and have effects applied as a whole role.

It was an inaccurate guess based on Apple shuffling their Final Cut support page around late on Wednesday night! :woohoo:

At least recent patents awarded to Apple hint that Final Cut has not gone into maintenance mode. I've written up an Apple patent covering audio on my public Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Alex4D/

Upgrade FAQ emailed to Color Finale users:

F.A.Q.

Q. Ran update where is the 'Open' button when
I click triangle dropdown?

A. Close FCP X. Then be sure to double click
to run Color Finale from the main /Applications
folder. Reopen FCP X.

# # #

Q. Where is the X-Rite ColorChecker???

A. X-Rite color checker is now in the CMS (color
management system) section. This is the gear
icon in the Color Finale window.

# # #

Q. Why are the 'Use CMS' options 'greyed' out?

A. This feature will be enabled when you upgrade to
the Pro version which we're looking at an August
release.

# # #

Q. Why won't LUT Gallery work when I click the
'LUT Gallery' checkbox in LUT Utility?

A. You have to have Color Finale effect highlighted/
selected over in the inspector under the "Effects"
section.

# # #

Q. Is this a phishing/spam email with the subject line
"NEW Color Finale activation code"; in the from field
"Gradng" of Grading is misspelled?

A. No it is a legitimate email from us, just a typo. But
it is important because it contains your new activation
code.

# # #

Q. In that same email with my NEW activation code
where the new code should be I'm getting:

<h1>Internal Server Error</h1>

How do I get my license?

A. If you're getting this just please bear with us
and we'll send out a followup email with your
activation code. We have a list of those that got
this error message. (Please give us 24 hours).

This shouldn't stop you from being able to run the
new Color Finale 1.5 because you should have been
migrated automatically. The automated email is just
for your records.

When I saw 10.2.4 I got the impression it might be a version for those who have good reasons not to update to the next version of OS X (now known as macOS Sierra). Apple has been great about letting Final Cut work with older OSes. The price of cool new features might be that 10.3 will only work on Sierra.

This time last year I was preparing for the first FCPX Creative Summit.

This is organised by Future Media Concepts in such a way as to allow the ProApps team to be involved. Last year the summit included a presentation in the nondescript building where the ProApps team works. That meant that attendees could meet and mingle with the designers and developers of Final Cut.

As soon as FMC decided to have another summit this year, I would be very surprised if they didn't get in touch with Apple about scheduling. “We'd like to do another summit neat year - hopefully in Cupertino. If you would like to be involved again, do you think having it the same time of the year would be good? The last week of June next year will be the 5th anniversary of Final Cut.” ”We suggest late October.” “Excellent. Late October it is.”

The good news is that the session on the Apple campus is more than just a presentation…
