Yes, with zoom tool I meant that :)

It's cool that if I hold Z when clicking and dragging then release Z key it will pop back to what ever tool I had before zooming.

Well, fit to selection can mean multiple selection as well if you want to see clips before and after specific clip. Some kind of fit "with user configurable handles" could be also handy. That would mean selecting single clip and hitting shortcut won't fill timeline with single clip, but for example 1 or 5 seconds handles to see relations for one before and after.

I'm adding custom Titles and Lower Thirds for 45 minute show. Those will appear here and there and can be between 2 seconds to 5 seconds. Often I have to start with place holders before getting draft from producer. Then I have to fix names and typos multiple times as client or who ever made fixes.

In this case I'm not dealing with clip it self, but titles. Those are scattered and not connected to one or another.

With trackpad pinch gesture, depending of how long is your actual timeline and how short is your clip (title in this case) you want to see and edit, it requires some kind of precision to fit it nicely. It can easily zoom in too much too.

I can live with zoom tool yes. At least it precise and fast enough, but love to see "show selected" command.

Cheers!

Hi, thanks for replys!

I'm very supprised no one ever needed that function in FCP history if there isn't such a command yet!
yeah, I'll make sure to add as suggestion.

Cheers!

Hi,

I have a 45 min long show and I would like to quickly fit my timeline view to fit selected clip. Is it possible with some command? Basically that would be clip version of Shift+Z to avoid zooming in with zoom tool.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if you get my point here.

Hello,

My project isn't big at all. But still, when it's cached into RAM, it shouldn't affect anyway, or am I wrong?
When it's reading from RAM, it should be pre-rendered right so it should only play pre-rendered frames from RAM and Mac Pro's RAM and graphics cards should be fast enough to play without any problem.

Hi,

RAM Preview should be cached into RAM so it should play realtime, right? I'm working with standard 1080 HD resolution 25 fps project and it's not playing realtime. It plays OK here and there, but there are some stops and lags. Project is 625 frames long and it will fit just fine to my 32GB RAM.

I'm on Mac Pro 2013, 12 core, 32GB RAM, D700 and 512 SSD. Should be good enough for Motion work.

Any idea? Thanks.

I finally got to play with Motion on a new Mac Pro. I did notice a performance improvement but it wasn't drastic like Ben said.

I'm not sure if it's worth the price for me.

I make a lot of FCPX plugins and want to see a drastic improvement for that kind of money.
Thanks for the report! I have already ordered my nMP with 12 core and D700 and it should be here on next week. I really needed more horsepower for rendering purpose than what I have now on iMac so can't wait to have it! If it runs Motion 5 even little bit better then it's good plus. It's not coming for Motion/FCPX use only.

Can't wait!

Thank you BenB, good to hear that nMP is working great for you. Actually I'm looking nMP with very much same specs, without Pegasus tho.

Hello,

How much nMP D700 GPUs will speed up Motion workflow? Will it play "generic motion graphics (multiple animated shapes and texts)" DoF and Motion blurs turned on or will it still need RAM preview for realtime playback?

Right now I'm using 2013 iMac with i7 and GeForce GTX 780M and I can't playback animations without RAM preview when DoF and MB are turned on.

I'd like to hear real life experiences if possible, thanks!
