Helpful. Thanks.
Hopeful for how a 3rd party may use this functionality!

Anyone notice the 10.4 release notes and the section on proxies?

Under the FCPX 10.4 release notes "issues" section, it says "Third-party asset management systems can now send low-resolution media to Final Cut Pro through XML import and later replace those low resolution files with full resolution files through another XML import". Has anyone tested this? Does this open up the ability to create 3rd party proxies and then ingest and FCPX will properly relink? Something else?

Their release notes here: support.apple.com/en-us/HT201237

(This question originally asked by Chris SInclair on FB but no answers yet. He and I are hopeful this means good things!)

Tested this in/out workflow when getting into the office and here's what's happening for me: if there are "grouped clips" above the primary storyline then it no longer allows me to simply set an in and out with i/o. If there is no group above the primary then i/o works as expected.

Seems like 10.3 may have a new way to select different video tracks of sorts to set ins and outs? (i.e. use keyboard to tell it to i/o on primary or in the group?) Thoughts?

That's odd, it didn't change, works for me. Nothing selected, hit space bar to start paling, i makes an In point on the Primary Storyline clip, o makes an outpoint. Should work.

Try trashing prefs. Also, is this an updated project, or a new one? I've seen a couple of really minor issues with one or two updated projects.

It is an updated project. Will try that tomorrow at office. I just tested on my home computer and it works here like you said. Thanks!

Has anyone noticed or figured out the different in/out setting when playing through the timeline?

When playing on the main storyline with no clips selected I used to be able push "i" to set an in on the primary storyline or, "o" for out. Now it seems that I and o don't do anything unless I clip a clip on the storyline first and then push I or o while playing trough that clip. Has anyone figured this out? I have major muscle memory tied to that functionality, left over from avid days. Hoping I'm just missing a new possibility

Related to the murmurings/wishes that the next FCPX could include new collaboration tools... Abode just announced a "Team Projects" functionality, but without details on price or availability.

...multiple team members simultaneously access projects, with version control and edit histories in the media browser. Each user works on a local version that gets synced with others on demand, with several conflict-resolution options.
(From http://www.cnet.com/news/adobe-team-projects-could-give-video-producers-hours-of-their-lives-back/)

Perhaps Adobe heard something is coming from Apple and wanted to get their announcement out sooner... I hope so at least...

Quick multicam and XML question... I'm editing on the road. Duplicate hard drive is back at office with assistant editor. Problem is we didn't make all multicam clips before duplicating hard drives. If I make a muticam clip on the road, then do an edit/project and send that project XML back to the office, will it include the new multicam clip when my assistant imports the XML? Or do all multicam clips need to be made prior to sharing XML?

Any help is much appreciated!

That issue has been fixed: Resolve is now fully compatible with FCP X multicam. The reason it wasn't in the previous version, is because Resolve 11 didn't have multicam editing capabilities yet. But Resolve 12 does.

Fantastic news. Thanks.

After spending the last 8 weeks with Premiere, I'm just so happy to be back in FCPX. But one thing I'd really like is a bit more customization of the interface. I got used to setting up Premiere's windows to accomplish whatever task I had to do and find the horizontal bar limiting. Sometimes I want to have a really tall timeline (lots of tracks) and a tall inspector...

^ yes please.

When sending from FCPx to resolve for finishing, are there any errors you have to work around, or is it pretty seamless now? We haven't tried roundtripping with XML since an experience a few years ago where we couldn't get Resolve to interpret the multicam footage. Would love to hear that's not an issue anymore or if there's a simple workaround.

(FWIW, we do send to colorists still, but usually just a flattened file with XML).

BrentG created a new topic ' Waveforms won't turn off?' in the forum. 5 years ago

In the event viewer window I cannot get the waveforms to turn off. Every time I uncheck the "show waveforms" box it just automatically re-checks the box once I click away. Anyone ran into this? Solution idea?
