Tangier Clarke created a new topic ' Auto Reframe for FCP X' in the forum. 10 months ago

Has anyone come across any third party tools that could do something like the auto-reframe feature in Adobe Premiere Pro? Center cropping and repositioning graphics manually does take time. Though I am sure the Adobe Sensei AI may not yield ideal results, it also seems to be a time saver at least to start from.

Interesting find that it doesn't work on the 4K project but does in the 1080p project. I'm thinking this is a definite bug.

Exporting with the keyed on is not the issue. It exports fine for me as well. The issue is having the clip with the LUT applied, no keyed, and then exporting yields the results in the image above. It should still export with the screen being solid green, but it doesn't. Not even on a clean project storyline and no media beneath it. So far the only way I can get the clip to export from FCP X with the solid green still in tact is changing the LUT or setting it to "none".

Since Apple Motion doesn't recognize the LUT automagically like FCP X. My hope was to export the portion of the clip that I'll use out of FC P X with the LUT applied, but it won't work. The green doesn't maintain. Instead it exports as if a keyer filter was on with a dark background behind (underneath) the clip when there really never was...as seen in the photo above.

Hope this is more clear.

Well what do you know...I changed the LUT to Panasonic V-Log, exported a ProRes 4444 and it came out just fine. The green stayed in tact. This was just a test to see what would happen if I changed one of the built-in LUT options.

Hey there Tom. That's the confusion for me as well. To you first question though - I have exported multiple types of files from my storyline including those formats and this yields the same results.

The image on the right happens even on a clean project storyline with no video beneath it. This is all very strange.

Today I tried exporting by sending to Compressor and still the same thing happened.

New development: I tried setting the Camera LUT to "None" which makes the clip look flat the clip exported just fine with no keyed look to it as in the picture above.

I don't have a clue why this is happening. I wondered if it was a Quicktime playback issue so I tried it in other apps. Same results. For some reason FCP X and Compressor will not allow me to export video that has chroma key elements that are affected by a LUT even though FCP X is applying the LUT assigned by the camera and set in the metadata. It's not a LUT i brought in and applied on my own. FCP X recognized the LUT automatically.

I've never seen this happen.

Hello folks. I am exporting a segment of my cut to for green screen/tracking work that I'll do in Motion or DaVinci (if I can figure the latter out). Something strange is happening on the export whereas the clip is keyed (the green somewhat replaced) even when there's no video beneath it. I wanted to run this by you all in case it's just my ignorance/human error at play here. I could go back to the original of course, but I did some slight color adjustments on the clip already. The clip shows up solid green in my timeline as it should.

In preparation for Motion or another app, I've exported the clip as a ProRes 422, ProRes 4444, made sure the FCP X Keyer was disabled and/or not present at all, and tried putting the clip in it's own project before these exported formats. In each export is goes from solid green to keyed. See images of before export and after.

Thanks for the reply and your details explanation has things that I have considered as well. I suspect it's the SQL database. I just find this really tough to deal with. I've always noticed that copying using FCP X is significantly slower than doing it in the finder and I haven't found a solution. The drives I was using are 5400 rpm bus powered drives. I should do more tests with my RAID. However, I've been noticing this for several years with several versions of FCP X, macOS, and various drive setups. I wish the coping was at least close, but it never is.

Will have to do some tests and document. It's like the difference between a Mac with and a Mac without QuickSync but with multicore Xeon chips. They're not even remotely close in compressing H.264 even though the latter has Xeon chips and more cores.

Folks, I am trying to figure out why there's such a huge disparity between copying a library from one drive to another using the Finder vs. using FCP X to copy content.

For example:
Two USB drives connected to the same computer. I copy one library (1TB) from one drive to the other using the Finder and it takes somewhere between 2.5-3 hours.

Copying an event from the same starting USB drive to the same destination USB drive, but with the same content and using FCP X to create and copy the data takes well over 10 hours.

This has been happening no matter what kind of tests I do. I understand that FCPX has to build it's database draw waveforms, etc. and therefore would be a little slower, but these time differences are huge.

Any ideas folks? Managing large amounts of data using FCP X and distributing to other editors is a significant workflow slowdown even when letting things run overnight; being that copying is still not done often times.

How do I get a license? It's not clear. I searched for the word "license" or serial on the website and in the XTI-notes doc.

I had some problems when bringing them in as captions because I wasn't able to reposition some that needed to fit in the safe zones. They can be regular titles too if need be.

Folks, I need some recommendations on subtitle apps or help with one I've used before that doesn't seem to be doing what I want.

Subtitles were done on a site called subtitle-horse and in the past I have had no problems getting .srt and vtt files from that site, using Spherico XTI to bring them into FCP X. However the old XTI before Mojave launches with scripting errors and the Mojave version (a lite version) doesn't convert anything past 10 minutes. I can't find a full version alternative.

Before I go buying an app like FinalSRT which there's no demo of, do any of you have any suggestions?

Has anyone come up with a way to know what the size of an event is - the storage it needs? It's amazing that in FCP X we can only see library size, but not events. This would be great in knowing especially when having to move an event to it's own library on another drive. I haven't found a tool that can provide this either. I looked into Final Cut Library Manager, but that doesn't do it.
