We have been accused of being Canon biased on FCP.co. Not so. It's just that there seems to be more people shooting video on Canons than Nikon DSLRs. So when we saw this video, we thought we would post it on the front page.
Do you remember the DSLR buzz from a few years ago when everybody bought a 5D mkII? It triggered off a new phase of film production as the recording of video with a DSLR meant the user could get the benefit of great lenses and of course that shallow depth of field and big bokeh.
Nikon got left behind a little in the video race and there have definitely been more Final Cut Pro X stories posted that have used Canon footage. However, we have featured some outstanding work shot on Nikons and edited with FCPX.
Back to the video and we have to thank Gary Fraiberg for steering us to Nikon Asia's YouTube page and this film called Forget You Not.
Shot on a Nikon D7200 they had a good range of glass:
AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED
AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED
AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED
AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II
PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED
Edited in FCPX, they used quite a few plugins from different companies:
After all that build up, we have to say we are a bit disappointed with the final result. The maximum resolution has been limited to 720 and even at that it all looks rather soft. Very different from some of the glossy Canon videos.
We will leave you to make your own mind up and please let us know if there are any other Nikon/FCPX stories we can feature!
