You have to hand it to Patently Apple, they do the hard work of wading through the many patents that Apple apply for and indeed get granted.  Freshly rubber stamped today is this rather 1980's Max Headrom-esq grid showing sounds represented against time, amplitude and frequency axes. It has been suggested that this patent suggests a feature that will be implemented within Final Cut Pro, my money would go on Soundtrack or even Logic.
