It wouldn't be 40GB. It will either be 64 or 128.
It should be noted this was a single CPU 12core processor. Does lend some weight to the idea that this will be a single CPU machine, but it's impossible to say for sure if there will be any dual processor configurations. If there were dual-CPUs available, then Apple would have said up to 16 cores at least (2x8core processors).
Even if this is the case, it won't affect my purchase. CPU performance isn't nearly as important to my workflow anymore. GPU and drive speed is much more critical to me.

Bear in mind, if the machine was 100% up to task, it would be shipping today. What we actually see shipping will be somewhat different in benchmarks and specs. With the RAM being much faster, and GPUs as powerful as they are, it will be a nice desktop machine.
I have two 2TB and two 4TB drives in my current 2008 Mac Pro, and upgraded GPU. The heat it pumps out is tremendous. The fans run faster and louder since I put in the 4TB drives. I'd happily welcome this machine with smaller footprint (yes, size is a major factor for me), less heat, less noise. I won't have the amazing wave of heat coming out from under my desk torturing me every day.

Xeon chip used is a 12 core single chip running @ 2.7ghz at best. No dual chip - as yet...

The only thing I've read is that the single cooling arrangement may restrict the machine to single CPU configs. There are those who've looked at the press images and said that there's just no room for a dual-CPU arrangement. True or not, I have no idea.

As a retired, old school, IT engineer, I can say that a single 2.7 core, run side by side to a single 3.0 core, human beings will never physically see that much of a difference. Multi-core, yes, could make a difference. But Quad core 3.0 or six core 2.7, I'll take the six 2.7's.

... having said that; I haven't seen the price for one of these beasts yet, so I may get a dose of brewers droop. :woohoo:

Max out a current gen MacPro on the Apple store and you'll be in the ball park on the price of the top-speck new one. It won't be cheap.

Just heard Philip Hogetts confirm that one of the 'graphic cards' isn't really used to run a monitor at all, but is used in adding extra grunt for things like rendering. Things are starting to look interesting. :woohoo:

The basic idea is that one GPU is used to drive the displays (up to 3 4K monitors). So the second GPU is dedicated to graphics performance. However, the display GPU can assist in graphics if there's the memory available (which there should be since I doubt too many people will be running the max 3 4K displays).

Preorders have started on Asus' 32" UHD Monitor. The 3840 x 2160 display will set you back $3,499.

If Apple does what is has done to date with it's other Retina displays, we could see a new ACD with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 (double the current 27" ACD/iMac resolution). Or maybe Apple will just adopt the 4K resolution as the new upper standard.
This is the closest comparable we have for pricing- Personally, I don't see how a rACD is going to be any less than $2,499-$2,999.
It will really be like stepping back in time almost 10 years to the 2004 WWDC, when Jobs introduced the 30" ACD at a price of $3,299. I think the rACD is going to be a premium product strictly for the high end user. I honestly don't even think you'll see these panels in iMacs until next year.
A picture is starting to form in my mind of the system I'll want to build.
New MacPro (specs to be determined- I'd love to say topped out, but lets see how much that will cost...)
A rACD (presuming Apple makes one) for my primary interface.
A current generation ACD for second display (hopefully second monitor support and FCPX tweaks will allow for me to shunt things like HUDs and overlays to this second display where resolution isn't as important.
Finally, I'll be looking at what my 4K TV display options are at the time of release. My paying work isn't 4K at the moment, but my personal projects and feature work I'll be pushing 4K for future-proofing this year.
That should make a dent in my taxes next year!
