Help- FCPX trying to capture old hi8 analog tape

I'm having a problem with FCPX capturing analog DV out from an old Sony Camera that FCP doesn't support- using dv wire to 400 firewire to 800 adapter to Thunderbolt 3 to iMac -any idea's on how to best convert these tapes via DV out from this camera to Firewire or thunderbolt 3 ? Camera doesn't have composite out only DV out and S-Video. Canopus ADVC-100 seemed like the best solution, but all I can find are used ones and they are very expensive. Any suggestions? HELP

Check in System Information that the DV device is recognized in the hardware, If it is try using the QUickTime player to Ingest.

iMovie is more forgiving about such things. Did that dinosaur up and try it.

(When you get tired of spending hours and hours of trying to get things to work and burning up 13 gigs of drive space per hour to do that consider farming the job out to a place that can run 10 tapes at a time. $20 per tape is the customary fee.)

I have over a hundred tapes - there's got to be a way to capture vs paying a service $2,000 to capture. I'm sure I can find a solution. Thanks!

Can you dub the analog tapes to DV.
