Exporting OMF with WAV files? was created by will_m
Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to export an OMF from FCP7 and have the audio as .WAV? I have a project where the sound has been recorded separately as wav files and now I've done the edit of the film I wanted to send an OMF off to the sound guy so he can tidy it up but he requested wav files, I tried exporting the OMF but all the files just come out as .AIFF, is there anyway to export as the original wavs or even just reference the original audio files?

If you use OMF to export audio from FCP you'll get an OMF container with OMF file formated audio files within the container. The original clip data should be maintained within the OMF data file. When you import the OMF in Protools you can select to work with AIFF or WAV in the Session Parameters.
As a sidenote: I do not understand why anyone would prefer receiving WAV audio files over AIFF ones. Both are exactly the same, just different headers. Is there any reason why your audio guy cannot work with AIFF?

Hi ronny, thanks for such a quick reply. The sound guy didn't exactly request a wav, he just said he wanted an omf at 44.1khz and 24-bit and I said would wav be ok and he said yes, so I'm sure he can work with the aiff files too, I didn't know they were basically the same thing. He said he uses nuendo for editing and I'm sure that will take aiff files with no problem?
I was just worried that when they get imported into his sequencer converting them into wavs will somehow degrade the quality of them.

Nuendo supports almost any audio format, so AIFF will certainly work. Anyway, converting AIFF to WAV will absolutely not degrade the quality of the audio because both AIFF and WAV are lossless audio formats.
