But I'm still crossing my fingers...
I'm basing my expectations exclusively on these code hints vs my own personal wish lists. I already know that some things I'd really like to see won't be making it into this release. A year is a long time, but not THAT long, so there's only so many things the team can accomplish in that time. And there may be things they WANT to do that may be waiting on OS technologies coming in a future release of OSX, or enhancements to AVFoundation, iCloud, etc..
Automatic ducking iMovie style would massively speed up my workflow and EPK style vids. I actually feature requested it at one point. I'd be hugely excited if that's in the update

I wrote about the fact that the new version of iMovie is an unreleased version of Final Cut Pro X with a consumer interface that implements the features found in the previous version of iMovie.

You know that for a fact, or just assuming? I will assume you are just assuming it is a new FCP X release with a watered down interface.
Very interesting articles, just not sure I'd jump to conclusions so quickly. Since you found stuff way back inside of 10.0.0 that we've never seen yet, either. But yes, very interesting stuff, thanks for sharing.
No-one has confirmed to me that the new iMovie is an unreleased version of Final Cut Pro X.
I never break NDAs, and never publish anything told to me by someone breaking an NDA. When people offer me information based on their time working at Apple, I tell them I'd rather not know something I can't pass on. It's easier to speculate that way.
Let's put it this way - the structure of iMovie (2013) is very similar to the structure of Final Cut Pro X:
Should I have kept all this to myself?

If these threads aren't for speculation [in this case, well researched speculation], then what are they for?
Thanks for another great article, Alex.
EDITED TO ADD-
Man, I really hope that the subtitle support is coming in this release, I have a HUGE job that's going to have to be subtitled that I'd love to be easier.

SugarFX Subtitles is only $49 and is pretty easy to use. Especially if the client can provide an .SRT file.
Thank you very much Alex. Very interesting insights to the insides and relationship between iMovie and FCPX. A lot is being shared between them for sure. Thanks for sharing this information and not keeping it to yourself.
If I remember correctly, the 1st rewrite of iMovie that included events, was not supposed to be an iteration of the iMovie software base. it was a new app that was to integrate with FCP Studio as an assistant editor's tool. Something to ingest and precut footage before sending it to fcp to edit.
Given that its the same software architect heading both programs, I wouldn't be surprised to see so much integration of the code base. I'm also saying this as a software developer, reusing code is much easier to develop than maintaining separate code bases. Thanks for all the insight thus far. I've enjoyed the 35 page read. also can't wait for an update.

It would make sense for iMovie to have the same base structure as FCP X, at this point in time. As someone said, an FCP X Express. Very interesting to see all the hidden code. I remember you finding some collaboration tags in 10.0.0, Alex. That was pretty interesting, too. I guess we only have a short, few weeks until we find out what will and won't be there for this next upgrade. But very fascinating to see what is hidden inside of iMovie 10. I'm actually surprised they didn't call it "iMovie X".
Very likely one in the same. Based on the assembly video, we know they've been manufacturing since October- though they may have been waiting on volume of things like the CPUs from Intel and GPUs from AMD. Apple is likely very keen not to have a repeat of last year's iMac release- so they've given themselves time to stockpile.
