Maybe it's just my 'magination but this sudden rash of plugin sales.... perhaps it's because some of their features might be incorporated into the FCPX upgrade... but how would the plugin developers know that of course.

It could also be that the plugin developers know there's a new version coming and they are concerned the new version breaks things and they wouldn't have any sales for a while ;)

Call me cynical .... ;)

Or, it's the start of a new season (fall) the market is becoming saturated, and they wanna sell stuff. :-)

There could be something to the plugin sales. I noticed that Resolve 10 lite beta 1 has many new hidden features that make apps like 7toX and Xto7 obsolete. You can go from any NLE into Resolve, then back to any other NLE. (Avid, PP, FCP7&X) There are some bugs with sound that may or may not be my fault going to X from 7, but so far picture all travels over.

I think there will be major changes to streamlining all this.

Have you had any serious issues? I'd heard early reports the beta was behaving badly with FCPX.

Yes and no, I've mostly done tests. Going from FCPX to Resolve then back. The tests have been simple cuts only timelines with footage that is all the same resolution and codec, up to mixed framerates and formats, etc. The more mixed the timelines are, the more problems I have. It's mostly sound not making the round trip.

That said, it's not really that much of a problem since you could just replace the picture then leave the sound as is. The picture has made it back and forth without issue except for HDV, which should be banned from existence anyway.

What excites me about Resolve 10 is the potential to be the "One Ring" solution for getting in and out of all the different editing systems. If they get it to work smoothly, we could collaborate with editors much easier who don't use the same NLE app. Keep in mind, this is the Lite version that is already doing this much.

OSX 10.9 Mavericks GM has just been released to developers.

9to5mac.com/2013/10/03/os-x-mavericks-go...elopers/#more-291022

As part of the triumvirate of releases leading to FCPX 10.1 (along with Mavericks & MacPro), this means that Mavericks release could be only a few weeks away.

I have no insider information but... there is still the possibility that certain features require Maverick and/or special hardware requirements. Just saying... B)

Also it has been pretty silent on the Ripple Training front. ;)

Ripple won't update the Resolve training until the full version is released.

We get Fall plugin sales every year...

Mavericks GM has dropped for devs, and now this: www.apple.com/education/ipad/volume-purchase-program/

This is a huge change for the app stores. I said before I'm thinking they won't charge for the FCP X upgrade, now I'm not so sure.

Is this new? There has always been volume purchasing for education I believe.

As Alex said a while back- the original release for FCPX needed some code in Lion, but that was able to be built into the code for FCPX so it would work on earlier OSs.

IF there are Mavericks requirements for 10.1, they'd have to do the same thing... OR 10.1 would be Mavericks exclusive.

Volume purchasing of Apple's own software Apps has been around for awhile. FCP X has had volume purchasing for businesses, schools and AATCs since it's release. The difference is they are opening that up to third parties now, not keeping it only to Apple software products. Don't think that will effect FCP X at all.

My point in sharing that was to mention that the Mac App Store is going through some universal policy changes that apply to all developers, not just to apple's apps. This adds to the speculation that apple will charge something for the FCP X update. As of now there are no apps that are allowed update pricing, which has been one of the biggest complaints from devs. If Apple did suddenly offer an upgrade price for one of their own apps, there would be a lot of unhappy developers. Times they are a changin..

As I mentioned before, they cycle for inclusion of that kind of feature is going to be when the OS gets updated. On the iOS side, that would have been several weeks ago. And on the Mac side, before the end of this month.

But a feature like that, which as you said developers have been clamouring for would have been a highlight feature of WWDC. So I think any major shifts in the way appStore works is going to be on hold until next June.

Just a wee thing relating to my limited experience from dealing with Apple as a developer. It would more likely be a last minute surprise for said developers.
